A Smith & Kearns was established in 1952 by “Shorty” Doebber of the Blue Blazers. “Smith and Curran” are two authors. Drinks that were originally named or had specific ingredients have been changed over the years, but the general concept remains excellent and popular. It is said that the loud atmosphere in bars caused Curran to be misheard as Kerns (also spelled Kern). As time went by, crème de cacao was also replaced with liqueur that was flavored with coffee.
There may be some explanation for this, including the rise of the white Russian in the 1960s, which made Kahlua a star in bars. A delicious drink, whether you have it with coffee or chocolate, Smith & Kearns is a great choice. Since this drink is light on alcohol, it makes an excellent happy hour drink—the combination of soda and cream reminiscent of ice cream floats in taste. You’ll find it to be one of the more refreshing cream cocktails. The Smith & Wesson cocktail is transformed if vodka is added (a reference to the gun manufacturer and the higher level of a kick in the cocktail).
